My awesome direct just gave her notice

She's taking a job with better salary, benefits, and it's a big step up for her.

I AM SO GLAD I heard the podcast for this recently -- because I was able to say "Thanks and congratulations -- can we talk about this some more this evening [after I have time to collect my thoughts and not say any bad words]?"

I guess expecting even the awesome people on your team to stay indefinitely is like getting mad because your kids grow up and change.  Not only is it inevitable, it's stupid and counterproductive.

Still kind of reeling from the news.

Oh my goodness Kate, I'm right there with you.

My direct got promoted by management Mar 13th and luckily they made sure I had a replacement before moving her totally out.

I was caught so off guard, though - I hadn't built my bench at all so I was pretty panicked for a while.

I know, you feel like you put so much training into them, and then all of a sudden it's the last O3. What?! :)

Yup, there's a balance of bringing out the best in them, and knowing they could disappear at any time & being at least slightly prepared for that. Aww. And now you start over again with a new person.

The thing that was sweetest for me though, even beyond that I'm happy she's in a much better financial situation - now I can be FRIENDS with her! :D
