Dear MT, I am a new disciple and listening to the Trinity series now to absorb as much as I can. I am a new Manager in healthcare (hospital) and will have at least 20 directs, but the most important requirement is I will be in patient roundings and will see at least 4 directs in 3 rounds daily - every day I am wondering if One on Ones are really feasible to do with 20 directs and such hectic day schedule? I know time management is another equation, but if I can see my directs (12 of whom) regularly daily do I still need to do one on ones with them? (logic says yes, but I yearn for feedback nonetheless!)

Yes
I'd recommend one-on-ones, if possible. There is a different dynamic to one-on-ones than there is in shift work or rounding. When you're rounding, I suspect your very focused on the task(s) at hand. You're less likely to be able to discuss concerns or issues the employee is having with meeting workload demands, interpersonal conflict, career progression, etc. You're also not likely to have time to do proper coaching. You may need to adjust the one-on-one schedule. Maybe 15-20 minutes. Maybe less frequently, but I'd recommend doing it.
Regards,
Randall
