BLUF: My manager wants to use her role power to help me in the case im searching for new opportunities.

Background: I applied for a internal position but did not get a offer. However i did get a opportunity to do a work exchange program for 6 months. I followed MT job search confidentiality suggestion but when my manager found out about the position i had applied for my manager told me she would support me in my search and if i did search for another position after the work exchange program i should let her know so she could use what ever role power she had to help me to my desired position.

Im confused as to how to proceed now that i have applied for another similar position. If i do not let her know she will probably perceive it as us having a bad relationship.

You don't state any reasons why having your manager go into bat for you would be a bad thing.  The phrase "use what ever role power she had" *perhaps* makes it sound like you think she'll go in all guns blazing and damage your candidacy, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.  Yes, the standard guidance is to keep your job search confidential, but MT guidance is for 90% of the people, 90% of the time.  If your manager is genuinely willing to help you get another position, you really, *REALLY* aren't in the 90%.

Often, your manager knowing about a job search will hurt you if the relationship does not exist with them.
It sounds like your manager is very much like mine.
My manager knows that I have been looking for a new role for over a year now. He has been contacted by hiring managers within our company to find out more about me.
If you are applying for internal positions, then she can help you with this search.
It is a rare manager who cares more about the company than their own performance. It may be that your current position is beneficial to the company, but elevating you to the next level is even better for the company.

Give her a try and marvel at the results that may appear.

BLUF: I told her i am in a internal process and she was pleased i told her and ethically i feel alot better considering our relationship.
Background: When i applied for the internal role that i did not get i did not tell her i was offered work exchange program and the manager of the other group contacted her, i did not want to do that to her again. I feel since we do have a good relationship and she has expressed that she is truly happy for me if i do get the role i dont see the MT advice being the right one in my particular case. I still believe in MT advice as being right 90% of the time for me.
MATTPALMER: I followed your advice and it was the correct one, thank you.
SMACQUARRIE: The fact that you have a similar situation but in a different country and culture made me realize that the MT advice are general and at times not suitable. Thank you.
