issue with accessing MT from behind a restricted proxy

Hi guys, At my work we have a filter that allows particular sites to be access and blocks other sites. Because about 8 people now that I know of (starting with me) access MT from work I have made sure (easier to do as the ops manager of the help desk) that MT site isn't blocked. However I am still encountering difficulties with the Registered user podcasts and downloading them. I think this is because of the way you secure them. eg this is the block page info we get. This site (http://img667.libsyn.com/img667/67905d9243d8dd8de6c4e9557ef0b276/45de4364/43/8523/MT-member-2007-01-22.mp3) is categorised as MP3 Sites for Internet monitoring purposes. After looking to download the file a couple of times, the section "http://img667.libsyn.com/img667/" has changed (was img660 at one point) leads me to believe that this is a server farm and not something that we can just give permission to carte blanche. I'm not sure if you can help. But I won't know until I ask. Regards Douglas.

Douglas,

I'm not sure this will completely solve your problem; however, in addition to uploading the podcasts to Libsyn (which greatly decreases the bandwidth costs for us), we also make the files available from the Manager Tools server. For example, if the file is listed in the RSS feed or on the website as http://media.libsyn.com/media/managertools/manager-tools-2007-02-19.mp3, it is also available at http://www.manager-tools.com/podcasts/manager-tools-2007-02-19.mp3.

We do this precisely for the reason you indicated -- some corporate sites limit access to anything hosted on sites like Libsyn.

I hope that helps a bit!

And, thanks for doing your part to make most of Manager Tools available to your company users! Too bad we don't have "agents" spread all across the corporate world. ;-)

best regards,
Mike

I, too, have a proxy at work. I've been downloading MT through this method. But today, I got a "Page not Found" error. Would the URL have changed, Mike?

I've been working with our IT department to unblock the podcasts. At least once a month I have to report another link that is blocked. At first it was a fun exercise to see if we *could* unblock things ( and by the response I got I am the first person who asked ), but it's been getting tedious. The manager-tools.com link might fix all of that. Thanks!
