Hi Everyone,
I have a feeling that this topic has been beaten to death, but I need some clarification.
I know that the podcast stresses that formal written letters of resignation are not a wise idea, but my manager has requested one as HR needs it in order to initiate their processes.
Are there any ways around this? Or, perhaps, is there a template that can be used to meet his request?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
Adam

Clarification
Indeed, you shouldn't resign by handing a letter to your boss. Once you've resigned verbally, however, and basic terms are agreed to, providing a letter isn't a problem.
You should simply state that you are resigning, and that you are willing to stay on up to 6 weeks to assist with the transition. (or whatever you agreed to). Sign it. No explanations, no info on where you're headed...

Perfect. I followed the
Perfect. I followed the whole 6 week process as outlined in the cast and it worked very well. This was the only step I was unclear about.
I have 3 weeks left. He just needed an official letter.
Thanks for your help John.

See?
HR does silly stuff like this all the time. Somebody's following some policy that was created because somebody verbally resigned nine years ago and then wanted to come back and some executive said where's their letter and HR said we don't have one and the exec said that's not good and we oughta not be doing stuff to help people leave unless they're really leaving and HR said okay we'll have a policy and the exec said that's good.
And the exec's not there anymore.
Good recommendations from John.
