BLUF: Are there any different or additional actions you would recommend besides the ones made in the cast "How to Manage you References", when being asked to be a reference for someone else? Background information In spite of my young age I have held several positions that have, in some forms, allowed me to observe how some very good performers have done their work. Many of them have in return asked me to be reference of their performance, and I would like nothing more. If I, in addition could help them in actually nailing the positions they want, that would be the best. What I have done so far I have requested that he send me his resume – the same as the one the company holds, as well as the job text. In addition I have requested that he specify which parts of his career I highlight, and what performances he feel would do him justice and highlight his skills best. So re-state my question, are there any additional thing I should do as a reference that would help me help him? Thank you always for your help Magnus

Magnus-

It really helped me clarify my thoughts by writing the reference first. It clarified my thoughts and helped me put together specific examples.

From all the concern you're giving this, you're obviously going to be a great reference for these folks!

Magnus -

Keep it behavioral. That is, think of examples where the candidate's behaviors illustrate any point you're trying to make.

Be careful about becomming too familiar with the candidate's resume, or you'll sound like you've been coached. Be especially careful to stick to those portions of the candidate's background that you personally know.

Thank you for quick and specific advice

- Tom,

Thank you for good advice.

I had written him a performance statement at the end of hist terms, and after reading it, i did remember many more examples of relevant behavior I belive should behighlighted.

As a true MT fan i would be afraid of Marks comment if i didn't keep it to behaviors.

Further I think I will create a list of the strengths/weaknesses I observe in the candidate.

Again, thank you both for good advice
