Does anyone know if there is a way on Linkedin.com to invite the people in your area/region all at once to an event?
I see there are about 30 people in Toronto and it would be great to try to do a get together, but not so great to have to contact each one individually.

Not likely.
LinkedIn built their systems to avoid any mutli-mailing capability, because they're trying to be sure to avoid having members spammed by poseurs in their network.
But they've been changing their tools a lot lately, so they might have relaxed it a bit.
I manage a group of more than 400. If I want to email them, I have to extract their email addresses (which I have access to as the Group Manager) and use a regular email system to do it.
