Last year's reviews, I was not the manager

The manager for my current directs now reports to me. She was the manager for my directs in 2007. I've been in my position for two months. Questions - Who should give last year's reviews? Who should set this year's goals?

Was the organization flattened or was she demoted?
So she is is now a peer of the folks who previously were her directs?
Did you work closely with her former directs last year?

Nonetheless, you should set the goals.

Neither - One Division were split into three, I took over one.

The older manager now heads a new department in my division.

I am new to the company...

And she is now a peer of those whom she managed last year?

If that's the case, you should get the information from her, and give the review yourself.

You cannot review what you did not manage. She cannot set objectives that meet your pleasure. She reviews, you point the way forward.

It doesn't matter if she is now their peer. The review is conducted by the person who was managing - it is her review to give. What are you going to do - sit down and read her comments to these people and hope everyone joins you in the happy fiction that you were in charge last year?

Let her do it. My peer reviewed me just two weeks ago. I survived and we laughed.
