I just found these podcasts and I love them. Thanks! I am a first-line manager for software development team and I have 3 direct reports. The problem is that I do not even have a cube -- I sit with my team in a open space (to help us work together better?!). And our open space area is adjacent to another team's open space. It is impossible to have a conversation which is not public at my desk. In fact, any conversation I have is likely to DISTURB others in the area, no matter how much of a hushed tone of voice I use. So I am thinking about starting One-on-Ones with my team but instead of meeting at my desk we will go for a walk. But that will make it hard to reference and take notes. Does anybody have a suggestion for such a situation? Thanks, Steve

Can you use a conference room? Is there a coffee shop close by where you could take your directs for a coffee and and O3?

I do all my One on Ones in an open space. Sometimes we take a walk if things are a bit touchy.
