Is it appropriate to send thank you email for an internal interview

Simple question, just not sure of the interviewing etiquette.  I interviewed for a job in a different department within the same company.  Is it appropriate to send a thank you email to the interviewer?  Also, what should the email say?  The typical external thank you examples I've looked at all sound "cheesy" for an internal interview.
