Small Talk Before An Interview

Our guidance on making small talk before an interview.

Interviews generally start with some small talk.  Whether it’s an assistant walking you to the interview room, or the interviewer, there’s generally some questions before you get into the interview proper.

Two questions we nearly always ask when we meet someone for the first time are: ‘how are you?’ and ‘how was your trip?’.  They’re so standard that we can hardly not ask them.  So whether your contact asks them consciously or out of habit, they’re two questions that you need to know the answer to.  And guess what?  There’s RIGHT answers to both of them.
This Cast Answers These Questions
  • What do I say when I’m on the way to the interview room?
  • Do I have to make small talk?
  • Can we get straight to the interview?
